28.11.2024 Proxmox released new version of Proxmox Backup Server 3.3.

Proxmox has just released a new version of Proxmox Backup Server 3.3, bringing several significant improvements for network administrators and IT infrastructure managers. Let's explore the key innovations this update introduces.

  • More Flexible Backup Synchronization: The most interesting new feature is the "push" method for synchronization jobs. Previously, backup servers had to pull snapshots from the primary server. Now, the primary server can actively send backups to an offline location, significantly simplifying the backup process in environments with limited network connectivity.

  • Removable Storage Support: Another excellent addition is the ability to create datastores on removable storage media. Administrators can now easily transfer and share backup media between different servers by simply mounting and unmounting.

  • Expanded Notification Options: The new webhook destination in the notification system allows users to redirect notifications about key events, such as synchronization jobs or backup processes, to any webhook-compatible service.

  • Webhook Notifications: Push notifications to external systems with customizable HTTP requests for seamless integrations.

  • Faster Backups: Version 3.3 brings optimization to the backup process by efficiently detecting unchanged files. This significantly reduces the time needed to create a backup.

  • Technical Background: The new version is built on Debian 12.8 "Bookworm" and uses Linux kernel 6.8.12-4 as the stable default setting. Additionally, it offers an experimental kernel 6.11 and ZFS 2.2.6 support.
